　　澳洲的霍顿汽车公司(Holden)在澳洲历史上有着极其特别的地位，因为澳洲大陆上第一部由澳洲人自己生产的汽车，“48-215 ”，就是从霍顿的车间里开出来的。要探究霍顿的历史，需要追溯到一个世纪以前。经营骑马用具起家的霍顿公司在1914年开始帮顾客生产定制的汽车车身，这迈出了它漫长汽车工业里程的第一步。经过10年的发展，它成为美国通用汽车的在澳洲的车身供应商，并于1931年和美国通用汽车澳洲分公司共同组建了“通用-霍顿汽车公司”(1994年起单独使用“霍顿汽车公司”的名称)。从1948年起，霍顿开始生产自己的车型，澳洲历史上第一辆属于本土的轿车48-215于当年下线，从此霍顿成为澳洲汽车工业的代名词。

1948-1953　　除了少量生产美国通用旗下的车型，霍顿拥有很多属于自己成功开发的产品，其中包括连续8年蝉联澳洲最畅销中级房车的Commodore、一直在澳洲高档轿车销量中名列前5的Statesman/Caprice 车型和澳洲本地最受欢迎的双门跑车Monaro。目前霍顿公司旗下共有20种车型，从两厢小型车到四轮驱动的SUV，从家用轿车到商用皮卡，应有尽有，完善的车型系列极大程度上满足了市场需求。
　　霍顿公司对于高质量的追求，不仅体现在它的产品上，还有就是它对于顾客无微不至的服务，以顾客为中心的原则一直成为公司持续发展和被澳洲人广泛认可的核心原动力。多年来，霍顿公司都在“澳洲100间最有信誉企业”中名列前5位。2003年之前它一直是澳洲汽车市场最大的份额占有者。此外，它在引擎、变速器和底盘方面的研发和生产能力都处于国际领先水平，在美国通用集团的全球产品布局中扮演着重要的角色。事实上，上海通用的凯越轿车已经让我们接触到了霍顿公司，而牛牛相信在接下来的日子，霍顿的其他轿车例如Commodore或者Statesman等必将有机会进入中国市场，那时将是我们体验澳洲“狮子”霍顿风格的最好契机。
　　今天的霍顿拥有超过9000个员工，已经生产了总共超过600万辆汽车。它从一个本地的汽车品牌逐渐发展成为一个面向全球的汽车公司，仅仅在2001年霍顿的出口额就有11.6亿澳元，并预计到2005年它将有三分之一的产品会出口到国外，出口国家包括美国、中东和韩国等地。目前它占有通用大宇汽车42.1%的股份，此外还和通用旗下的铃木(ISUZU)、欧宝(OPEL)和萨博(SAAB) 有密切的合作关系。历经风霜的霍顿汽车公司是澳洲人的骄傲，也是澳洲汽车工业里面最值得书写的篇章。
　　澳洲霍顿公司发展大事记：
　　1856年名为J.A Holden&Co.的公司在澳大利亚南澳首府的阿德莱德市成立，主要经营马具产品。1913年开始生产摩托车。1914年第一次生产为顾客定制的车身。
　　1917年开始大批量生产车身。1918年霍顿和弗罗斯特建立了霍顿汽车车身制造厂(Holden's Motor Body Builders，简称 HMBB)，这就是霍顿的前身。
　　1924年在南澳洲的Woodville地区建立了澳洲第一个现代化车身生产车间，并成为 GM公司的车身供应商。1925年霍顿生产出第一批封闭式车身的汽车，令澳洲成为继北美和欧洲大陆之后世界上第三大的车身产地。1926年澳大利亚通用汽车公司建立(General Motor Australia，简称GMA)。

1928年霍顿公司“狮子滚石头”的标志开始使用　　1931年澳大利亚通用汽车公司(GMA)和霍顿汽车车身制造厂(HMBB)共同组建了通用-霍顿公司。1936年通用-霍顿公司总部迁移到墨尔本。1945年应联邦政府的要求，生产属于澳大利亚人自己的车型。
　　1948年第一辆完全由澳洲人自己造的车，霍顿48-215车型正式下线。1953年霍顿公司生产出它第100,000 辆 48-215。1956年霍顿公司生产出它第250,000辆车，车型为霍顿 FJ 。

霍顿旅行车　　1957年在霍顿FE车型的基础上，制造了第一辆霍顿旅行车。1958年霍顿第500,000 辆车--霍顿FC诞生。1962年霍顿第一百万辆车--霍顿EJ下线。1966年霍顿为保证澳洲人驾驶安全，为所有的车型都配备了安全带。
1967年生产公司的第一辆小型车--霍顿Torana。同年，霍顿车第100,000辆出口车奔赴海外。1968年霍顿公司推出其HK系列车型，包括澳大利亚第一辆跑车--HK Monaro 。

霍顿Monaro　　1969年在维多利亚州的第一间澳大利亚汽车安全测试中心正式运作。同年，霍顿第两百万辆车下线。1974年霍顿第三百万辆车下线。1978年霍顿公司推出它Commodore(海军准将)中级房车车型，代号为VB Commodore。从此Commodore成为澳洲最为畅销的中级房车。
　　1981年第四百万辆霍顿下线。1983年霍顿公司生产出第200,000个引擎，总共出口的霍顿车达到250,000辆。1990年霍顿第五百万辆汽车下线。1991年VN Commodore获得澳大利亚最受欢迎车型的称号。

霍顿Commodore

霍顿Commodore皮卡　　1992年霍顿全面采用ABS防抱死刹车系统。1993年霍顿全面采用安全气囊系统。1994年不再使用“通用-霍顿”的名称，而仅仅采用“霍顿”作为公司名称；VR Commodore 成为澳洲销量第一的乘用车。1995年霍顿公司推出其开发的3800 ECOTEC V6型引擎。
　　1997年新品VT Commodore轿车成为“澳洲年度最佳车型”。1998年庆祝第一辆澳大利亚车--28-415--诞辰50周年。1999年推出全新的Statesman/Caprice换代车型，该车同时出口到中东。2000年霍顿成为悉尼奥运会指定合作伙伴；霍顿Commodore中级轿车连续第五年成为澳洲最畅销车型。
　　2001年第六百万辆霍顿下线；在澳洲知名的“Fairfax最有名誉100强企业”中名列第四；全新的Monaro双门运动型轿跑车在悉尼车展亮相，随后成为澳洲本地最受欢迎双门跑车；霍顿小型车Barina获得澳洲最权威汽车杂志《Wheels》“年度最佳小车”称号；霍顿成为澳洲汽车市场占有率最高的公司；Commodore 中级房车连续第六年成为澳洲最畅销车型。

霍顿Monaro　　霍顿继上一年之后再次成为汽车市场最高份额占有者；Commodore轿车连续第七年成为最畅销中级房车；霍顿成为通用大宇公司的战略伙伴，占有其42.1%的股份；Monaro跑车获得澳洲设计大奖，并且成为霍顿历史上第一款向美国出口的车型，第一批出口数量为 18,000 辆。美国通用还采用Monaro作为旗下的火鸟旁蒂克Pontiac GTO的原型车；在澳洲知名的“Fairfax 最有信誉100强企业”中名列第五；在澳洲 Harris Interactive 公司的全国企业信誉调查中名列第五；被澳洲《读者》杂志评为全国最值得信赖汽车公司。
　　霍顿公布2002年创历史记录的利润--60亿澳元；推出多款新车型和换代车型，其中包括Statesman/Caprice，再次提供了自己的市场竞争力；澳洲最畅销Commodore轿车诞生25周年纪念。

Statesman/Caprice models are exported to Middle East regions and New Zealand and shipments to South Korea begin early in 2005.
